Custom software

Working software in 5 days.

I build a prototype of your core workflow with your own data. Most custom builds cost £2k–£10k and go live within a month.

£495
to start, and it comes
off the build.

First Gear · £495

Five days, two calls, one working prototype.

You give me about 75 minutes in total, and I do the rest. Whatever you decide afterwards, the prototype and the plan are yours.

  1. Day 1

    Kickoff

We spend 45 minutes on the one workflow that matters most: who uses it, what goes in and what comes out.

From you: 45 minutes, and a sample of real data. A spreadsheet export is fine.

  2. Days 2 to 4

    I build it

A working prototype with a real login, loaded with your data, on a private link you can share with your team. It covers the core path. Integrations and edge cases wait for the build.

    From you: Nothing.

  3. Day 5

    Walkthrough

We click through it together. You leave with the build plan: what the first release covers, its fixed price, the go-live date and what could come later.

    From you: 30 minutes.

What fits in 5 days

Two examples. Yours is built around your own workflow and data.

Example

Nursery funded-hours tracker

Children, sessions and funded hours for the term, with a running total of hours left to claim, loaded from your current spreadsheet.

Later phases might add: Parent invoices and a sync with your accounts package.

Example

Garage job card board

Job cards that move from booked to in the workshop to ready, each with the car, the technician and the parts on order.

Later phases might add: Text updates to customers and parts ordering from your supplier.

From £495 to a system you run.

The middle step shows a £5,000 build. Yours gets its own fixed price at the end of the 5 days.

Four guarantees, in writing.

They're written into the terms you accept when you pay.

Every build also comes with a 30-day fix guarantee. If something I built doesn't work as the plan describes, I fix it free.

  • See it first

You click through a working prototype before you commit to the build, and you keep it either way.

  • Fixed price

You pay the price in the build plan. New ideas go into a later phase with its own fixed price. Nothing is billed by the hour.

  • On time

If I miss the go-live date in your build plan because of a delay on my side, you get 3 months of Cruise free (£597). If your data, feedback or sign-off is late, the date moves by the same number of days.

  • Yours to keep

Code, data and accounts are in your name from day one. Export your data or cancel a plan whenever you like, and ask for a full handover pack.

Is it a fit?

It's for you if

  • You know which job your current tools handle badly, and it's costing you customers or time.
  • You pay for software that doesn't fit, or you run the work on spreadsheets.
  • You want a fixed price and a go-live date before any build starts.
  • You can give me 45 minutes on day 1 and 30 minutes on day 5.

It isn't for

  • An off-the-shelf product would do the job. If one fits, I'll tell you which.
  • Native iOS or Android apps. I build web apps that work well on phones, and installable web apps where they help.
  • Regulated or high-risk work, such as handling card data directly, medical devices, or anything that needs formal certification.

Let's get the gears turning

Tell me what you want to build.

I read each brief and reply myself. If First Gear is the right start, my reply includes a payment link that holds your slot. If an integration, a Gear Check or an off-the-shelf product would serve you better, I'll say so.

Common questions

Still have questions? It's usually quickest to talk.

You keep the prototype and the build plan, and you can take them to another developer. The £495 isn't refunded, because the work is yours.

It's 5 days of real work on your workflow, with your data, and you keep what I build.

The main job the software exists to do, such as taking a booking, raising a job sheet, building a quote or onboarding a client. The prototype covers that path from start to finish. Integrations, edge cases and the rest of the system come in the build.

The list covers what businesses ask for most. Describe yours in the brief form and I'll tell you whether it fits.

I build web apps that work well on phones, and installable web apps (PWAs) where they help. I don't build native iOS or Android apps yet.
